RICHMOND —
The Lady Patriots were ready to roll from the opening tip-off.
And it showed.
“We had some intensity from the get-go,” Model coach Ronald Preece said of his team’s effort Monday against Williamsburg. “That’s the way we need to play.”
Model jumped out to 14-0 lead in the opening minutes and used that momentum to roll to a 69-38 win in Richmond. Darrian Botts and Tara Hill each had 15 points and Hayley Hunt added 12 points as the Lady Patriots (9-14) snapped a three-game losing streak.
“I thought we played pretty well (Friday) against Southern,” Preece said. “We missed a lot of easy shots that we don’t usually miss.”
Hill sat out Friday’s loss at Madison Southern, but returned to the lineup with a strong performance. Against Williamsburg, the senior was three-of-four from three-point range and also had seven rebounds and four steals.
“I thought she came out and played well,” Preece said of Hill. “She still did miss some shots she usually hits.”
Mallie Cornett, a seventh-grade center, had one of her better efforts of the season, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Madison Schneid had nine points and Madison Keene added four points.
Model held Williamsburg scoreless for almost the entire first quarter. The Lady Jackets didn’t get on the board until Kacie Brown converted a three-point play with 2:48 left in the opening period.
The Lady Patriots were up 19-7 after the first quarter and used another run to go up 31-11.
Model led 33-18 at halftime. Hill had 11 points in the first half, while Botts had nine and Hunt added eight points.
Charity Mack and Danielle Hisoire each added two points in the second half as Model’s lead grew to 30 points.
The Lady Patriots are set to return to action Thursday at Garrard County. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
