RICHMOND —
After you’ve lived in a place for a while, you sometimes seem to take for granted the things that make that place special.
It happens to all of us — and I’m as guilty as anyone.
I just didn’t realize it until recently.
If you live in Richmond, you’ve probably been to the Lake Reba Recreational Complex on more than one occasion. I’ve been there more times than I can count in the nine years I’ve lived here in Madison County.
Still, it wasn’t until this summer that I’ve really explored all the really cool stuff there is to do at Lake Reba.
Check this out.
Within the past few weeks, I’ve done all these things with my daughter, Hannah, at Lake Reba.
* Soaked up some sun and cooled off in the pool at Paradise Cove.
* Hit some golf balls at the driving range at Gibson Bay.
* Crushed some softballs (yeah, right) and hit some clutch putts (yeah, right again) at Adventure Falls.
* Caught some fish out on the pier (My daughter caught four in one day with her Barbie fishing pole!!!!).
* Watched my daughter make lots of new friends at the playground.
* Took pictures of lots of talented young ballplayers during Richmond Little League action.
* And watched fireworks burst over the lake with thousands of other folks.
It seems like I’m at Lake Reba almost every day.
And it’s been a blast.
I don’t want to turn this into a free advertisement for the chamber of commerce, but the City of Richmond has really done a wonderful job creating a special place for the people of Madison County to enjoy.
There’s so much to do, including tons of things I didn’t even mention, including soccer fields, youth football fields, a dog park, horseshoe pits and boating in the lake.
I’ve lived in several other medium-sized cities across the state, and those locations don’t have any kind of facility that comes close to matching what we have here in Richmond.
We are lucky to have a place like Lake Reba in our community.
So, if you haven’t been out to Lake Reba recently, do yourself a favor and cruise on out there some afternoon. I’m sure you will have a good time.
