KIAC HOOPS: Mountaineers cruise past Wilberforce

The Berea College men’s basketball team remained undefeated at home with a 91-67 win over Wilberforce University Friday on the opening day of the Berea College Wierwille Classic.

The Mountaineers (7-2) trailed by as much as seven in the first half before rallying to take a commanding 45-29 lead into the locker room at the half. The Mountaineers led by as much as 28 points in the second half.

Berea was led by Aaron Ponder with 20 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, Trent Maddox with 18 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals, and Koty Riley with 12 points.

Tevin Webster and Deon Banks chipped in eight points each, while Dominique Garmon and Tyler Huff added seven points each.

The Mountaineers shot 47.7 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from the three-point line. They out-rebounded Wilberforce 47-40.

Darius Foster led Wilberforce with 24 points while Rachaun Thompson added 11.

Berea will play Southern Virginia at 4 p.m. today at the Seabury Center.
