RICHMOND —
The Model Laboratory boys soccer team got the season started on the right foot, beating Danville 3-0 Tuesday night on the road.
Model (1-0) took a 2-0 lead at halftime, then added a third goal in the second half.
Senior John Reisig scored a pair of goals for the Patriots and junior Andrew Wylie added a goal.
Senior Turner Curtis earned the shutout in goal.
Model plays its first home game at noon Saturday against Kentucky Country Day.
Berea boys top Burgin, 2-1
The Berea Community boys soccer team earned a victory Tuesday night in Burgin, beating the Bulldogs 2-1.
Neil Claytor scored 10 minutes into the game to give Berea a 1-0 lead.
Austin Warford added a goal to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Burgin scored in the final five minutes to cut the lead to 2-1.
“It’s good to start off with a win, but we have a whole lot of work to do,” Berea coach Casey Poynter said. “We controlled the tempo of the game, but we couldn’t put them away.”
Sophomore Cameron Coyle made seven saves in goal for the Pirates.
Berea returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Paris.
Woodford County edges Central, 3-1
The Madison Central boys soccer team fell at Woodford County Tuesday night, 3-1.
Central got the season started with a flash after Evan Roberts scored 28 seconds into the contest.
Woodford County responded with a pair of quick goals to go up 2-1 at halftime.
The Yellowjackets added a late goal for the final score.
“Once both teams settled in, we played well. We just weren’t fast enough,” Central coach Jeremy Anderson said. “Woodford County was much faster than what we were used to.”
Central plays at 8 p.m. Thursday at Western Hills.
Southern falls at Montgomery County
The Madison Southern boys soccer team fell to Montgomery County Tuesday night on the road, 2-1.
“We played pretty well,” Southern coach James Ray said. “Montgomery County is a strong team.”
Southern took the early lead on a goal by Tanner Kidwell.
Montgomery County tied the game at halftime.
The Indians scored the game-winner in the second half.
Zach Ward had 10 saves in goal for Southern.
Southern plays at 7:30 p.m. at home on Thursday against West Jessamine.
