Catholic blasts Central
Lexington Catholic used solid outside shooting to pick up a lopsided win over Madison Central Tuesday in Lexington.
The Knights hit eight-of-15 three-point attempts, including five-of-seven attempts in the first half, as they cruised to a 72-42 win. Catholic (18-4) shot 58 percent from the field, while limiting Central (8-17) to just 33 percent shooting.
Dominique Hawkins had a game-high 19 points for the Indians. Casey Schneider and Hunter Allen each added five points.
After two early lead changes, Catholic took control, building a 22-11 advantage after the first quarter. At halftime, the Knights were up 44-20.
Catholic got 23 points off the bench and out-scored Central 32-24 in the paint. Taylor Martin and Scott Schuette each had 12 points to lead the Knights.
Central’s Nick Ford had nine rebounds and three points, while Brenton Covington and Jared Pyatt each added three points. Daniel Parke and Kyle Congleton each had two points.
Central had just six assists and was out-rebounded, 33-32.
The Indians are scheduled to return to action Friday at Franklin County.
Weather forces cancellations
Wintery weather once again forced the cancellation of several local high school basketball games on Tuesday.
The Madison Southern boys scheduled home game with Estill County was canceled. The game has not been rescheduled.
The Eagles will return to action today at Scott County.
The Model Laboratory boys scheduled home game with Paris was canceled as well. The game has not yet been rescheduled.
