VOLLEYBALL: Central bounces back

RICHMOND — After a tough season-opening, five-set loss last week at Pulaski County, the Madison Central volleyball team bounced back with a solid district win Monday in Richmond.

The Lady Indians got pushed in all three sets but earned a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-14) win over Berea Community.

Katherine White wrapped up the victory with a kill on match point.

Central (1-1) took early leads in all three sets. The Lady Indians were up 16-10 in the opening set, only to see Berea (0-1) battle back within two points several times, including at 21-19.

Central got a service winner from Katie Stuart and a kill from White to seal the deal.

In the second game, the Lady Indians raced out to an 8-1 lead behind the serving of senior Brooke Morrow. A pair of aces from Payton Templeton put the Lady Indians up 16-3. Berea tried to rally behind the serving of Nikea Banther, but three kills by Templeton ended that comeback.

Berea had a 2-1 lead in the third set, but two service winners gave Central a lead it would never relinquish. The Lady Pirates stayed within striking distance but never got back within two points.

Riley Lane had an ace, Stuart had a kill and Templeton had a service winner as Central scored 10 of the final 14 points of the match.

Central is set to return to action today at LCA.

Berea will return to action Thursday at home against LCA.
