Marlins win Richmond Little League Coach Pitch Tournament

RICHMOND — When the Richmond Car and Truck Marlins needed another victory to wrap up the Richmond Little League coach pitch title, they came through in a big way.

The Marlins took a big early lead and never trailed as they rolled to a 24-20 win against the McIntosh Masonry Blue Jays Tuesday at Lake Reba.

The Blue Jays rolled through the winner’s bracket of the tournament and did not lose a game during the regular season. The team suffered its first loss of the season on Monday to the Marlins.

After taking a 5-0 lead after one inning, the Marlins added to their lead in the second. Ryan Stehle has an RBI triple and went on to score to give his team a 9-0 lead.

However, the Blue Jays came battling back. Brandon Wynn’s triple drove in the first run for his team and John Frazier hit a two-RBI single in the second inning. Trey Eden hit a two-RBI triple and later scored in the third inning, as the Blue Jays were only down 15-13 after three innings.

After the Marlins got up again, 19-14, the Blue Jays kept chipping away at their lead. Frazier hit a two-RBI single and Lane Harvey later drove in Frazier with a single to make the score 19-17.

However, the Marlins scored five runs in the sixth inning, including an RBI single by Jonathan Makinen and a two-RBI single by Grant Hotchkiss. They held the Blue Jays to just two runs to give them the win.

The Marlins were the only loser’s bracket representative in this season’s Richmond Little League tournament to win the title game.
