Several league champions crowned
Three spring season league champions were crowned at the Galaxy Center last week.
TDA and a Lady won the title in the Wednesday Wonders League, the Senior Citizens were the winners in the Classic Doubles League and the Turkey Hunters finished first in the Bad Bowlers League. The details are reported in the league highlights.
League highlights
Wednesday Wonders
The title in this league went to TDA & A Lady (Mark Morris, Coleman Harrison, David Norman and Beverly Shearer).
Pin Breakers (Debra Robertson, Michelle Sageser, Mike Dillon and Joe Sageser) finished second and the Scrubs (Karen Southworth, Amber Combs, Bradley Southworth and Brad Southworth) took third place.
Not Too Sharp, a team of four sisters (Gloria Tyler, Genny Bryant, Wanda Sampson and Barbara Brogle), finished fourth in the 10-team league.
The top performances on the final night included the highest series (605) and game (224) by David Norman and the second-highest series (552) by Mark Morris, which included a 200 game.
Brad Southworth had the second-highest game, with a season-best 212 score. Bradley Southworth (182) and Michelle Sageser (177) also had season-best scores.
The men with the top averages for the spring season were Joe Sageser (205), David Norman (196), Mark Rogers (191), Willie Hull (182) and Woody Arvin (178).
Sageser had the highest scratch series (692) followed by Norman (687), Rogers (659), Hull (637) and Coleman Harrison (626).
The highest scratch games were bowled by Arvin (262), Hull (257), Rogers (249), Sageser (246) and Norman (246).
Beverly Shearer had the top average for the women, (168), followed by Pat Allen (147), Barb Elbert (142), Barbara Brogle (141) and Joan Mott (138).
The best women’s series were 593 by Shearer, 557 by Allen, 487 by Mott, 487 by Michelle Sageser and 484 by Brogle.
Shearer had the highest women’s game (225), with Allen (221), Elbert (211), Amber Combs (203), Mott (192) and Brogle (192) next in order.
The most improved awards went to Pam Perry for the women and Norb Elbert for the men.
Classic Doubles
The Senior Citizens (Carl Daniels and Dean Acker) took the title for the spring season. Double XX (Ed Maggard and Steve Dickey) moved up from fourth place on the final night to finish second while the Ten Pin Ringers (Mark Patterson and Dustin Woolery) took third place.
The Straight Shooters (Mike Masters and Novel Davis) finished fourth, just one-half game ahead of the King Pins (Beverly Shearer and David Robinson). The 11-team league was very competitive, as only one and one-half games separated second place from fifth place.
Woolery had the top game (257) and series (660) on the final night and Ron Roberts was second in each category (204 and 587).
Steve Dickey and Lewis Jones Sr. also had 200 games.
Novel Davis led the ladies with a 205 game and 584 series, while Laurie Lennon was next with a season-best 193 game and 515 series.
Ruth Ann Neeley had a season-best 156 game.
The top averages for men for the spring season were recorded by Dustin Woolery (202), Lewis Jones Sr. (191), Ron Roberts (189), Mark Patterson (183) and Carl Daniels (179).
The top men’s series were bowled by Patterson (696), Woolery (688), Roberts (681), Jones Sr. (645) and David Robinson (613).
Jerry W. Rose (266), Roberts (258), Woolery (258), Patterson (257) and Jones Sr. (243) rolled the top five games.
Novel Davis had the top average for the women (169) followed by Beverly Shearer (165), Laurie Lennon (143), Ruth Ann Neeley (99) and Melissa Davidson (95).
The top women’s series were bowled by Davis (597), Shearer (570), Lennon (515), Davidson (365) and Neeley (345).
The high women’s games were 213 by Davis, 211 by Shearer, 193 by Lennon, 156 by Neeley and 139 by Davidson.
The most improved awards went to Ruth Ann Neeley for the women and Ron Roberts for the men.
Bad Bowlers
The Turkey Hunters (Tina Hisle, Luke Sullivan, Ron Acker and Dean Acker) won the title in this league. The Go Go Girls (Mysterie Brown, Julie Morris, Jerian Shaw and Kim Walls) finished second, while third place went to Split Happens (Shortie Brumfield, April Brumfield, Jeff Burton and Sid Yamamoto).
The high games on the final night were a no-miss 197 by David Robinson and 183 by Daniel Moore.
Linda Stallcop had the highest game for women with a season-best 170 score and April Brumfield was second with a season-best 169 game.
Splits converted included the 5-7 by Luke Sullivan and the 5-7 and 6-7-10 by Dean Acker.
The top men’s averages for the spring season were bowled by David Robinson (171), Ed Maggard (167), Daniel Moore (164), Steven Dickey (160) and Dean Acker (151).
The highest game scores were Moore (230), Dickey (224), Maggard (222), Robinson (210) and Acker (200).
The best women’s averages were compiled by Tina Hisle (148), Bonita Gibbs (132), April Brumfield (129), Kim Walls (127) and Jerian Shaw (126).
The best women’s games were rolled by Gibbs (200), Hisle (197), Shaw (176), Stallcop (170) and Brumfield (169).
This league only bowls a two-game series. Dickey had the highest men’s series (426) and Hisle the highest women’s series (353).
Friday Night Mixed
The highest games and series for the week were bowled by Ronald Richmond (266 and 648) and Lewis Jones Jr. (219 and 577).
Robert Johnson (210), Mike Dillon (201) and Kenny Smith (200) also rolled 200 games.
Miranda Rowe had the highest game (194) and series (516) for the women, while Tina Harrison had the second-highest game (185) and Michelle Albertson the second-highest series (413).
Sub Novel Davis had a 203 game and 521 series.
TGIF
Glenn Masters had the highest game of 228, which was part of a 607 series, while Terry Malin had the highest series score of 627, which included games of 224 and 223.
Pat Harris bowled the highest game and series for the women (191 and 492), while Margaret Tilsley was second at 176 and 491.
Splits converted included the 3-10 by Tib Congleton, the 5-6 by Lemetta Dause and the 5-7 and 2-10 by Pat Harris.
Arlington
I received a stat sheet for this league last week which purported to be the final standings, and I listed the leader as the winner of the league’s spring season. However, I have been advised that the schedule has been revised, and that the season is not yet complete.
Linda Bowles and Pam Northern had the highest games last week, at 192 each, and Bowles had the highest series at 530. Joan Miller picked up the 8-10 split.
