Norman, Simpson join the 700 club

RICHMOND — David Norman and Brandon Simpson have joined the 700 club at Galaxy this season. This is an exclusive group with only seven members.

Norman led all bowlers at Galaxy last week with a 707 series and 269 game. His high scores were bowled in the Wednesday Wonders League.

Simpson bowled a 701 series in the Galaxy Classic League.

Miranda Rowe led the ladies with a 216 game and 570 series.

League Highlights

Galaxy Classic

The high scoring pace of recent weeks in this league slowed somewhat last week as there were 12 600 series bowled, including one 700 series, compared to 17 600 series during the previous week.

There was also a small decrease in the number of 200-level games from 51 to 47.

Although there was a smaller number of honor scores bowled, there were many exceptionally high scores recorded.

Brandon Simpson bowled a 701 series. Barry Miller just missed the 700 level with a 697 score, while impressive scores were also rolled by Spider Weaver (679) and Matthew Wieczorek (675).

Series scores exceeding 600 were also bowled by Ronnie Thomas, Tyler Morgan, David Norman, Aaron Rose, Paul Dapkus and Ron Roberts.

The father son duo of Lewis Jones Sr. and Lewis Jones Jr. bowled series scores of 635 and 642 for a 1277 total. That would win a lot of doubles tournaments.

All the best scores are included in the top scores list at the end of the column.

Congratulations to league member Robert “Peanut” Johnson who was named Berea’s “Man of the Year” by the Berea Chamber of Commerce.

Galaxy Girls

Linda Combs bowled the top series (516) and tied Amy Felty for the high game (193) in this league.

The second-best series was 492 by Lemetta Dause. Tammy Fourre (192), Emma Lee Tate (191), and Dause (191) nearly matched the high score for the night.

Splits were converted by Mary Marcum (5-10), Rita Roberts (4-5), and Combs (5-10 and 2-7).

It should be noted that Jelemia Sanders rolled her season-best game at 193 during the previous week.

Wednesday Wonders

David Norman set new highs for this league with a 707 series and a 269 game. Norman is only the seventh bowler to join the 700 club at Galaxy this season.

Jim Holt had the second-best series (602) and game (225).

The top series by the ladies were 388 by JoAnn Smith and 386 by Jennifer Morris.

Joe Sageser picked up a 4-6-7 split.

Classic Doubles

The top series were 629 by Carl Daniels and 607 by David Robinson.

John Payne rolled the top game at 234 followed by Robinson (225) and Daniels (222).

Tina Hisle led the league’s ladies with a 210 game and 531 series, while Beverly Shearer was next at 201 and 500.

TGIF

Alfred McKnight led this league with a 207 game and 559 series followed by Merle Meade at 204 and 549.

The top ladies series were 534 by Sandy Reynolds and 507 by Sara Zuercher and they also had the top two games — 189 by Zuercher and 185 by Reynolds.

Splits were converted by Donnie Kearns (2-5-7), Tib Congleton (6-7-10), Lemetta Dause (5-10) and Meade (5-10).

Friday Night Mixed

Glenn Masters led the men in this league with a 642 series, which included a 235 game. Lewis Jones Jr. rolled the second-high series (636), while Kenny Smith bowled the second-best game (233).

Miranda Rowe led the ladies with a 216 game and 570 series, while Lisa Ball was next at 186 and 479.

Sub Brandon Simpson rolled exceptionally high scores with a 255 game and 657 series to top all league members.

Arlington

Joan Mott rolled the top game (195) and series (480). Connie Bowlin had the second-highest series (474) and Jane Gordon bowled the second-best game (176).

Splits were converted by Sandy Clark (2-7), Lorna Tribble (2-7) and Bowlin (5-10).

Cash Money League

Devon Farnstrom (565) and Mark Paier (550) bowled the best series scores in this league last Monday.

Farnstrom (215) and Randy Burgess Sr. (213) rolled the top games.

The league’s ladies were led by Lanette Rosales with a 181 game and 480 series and Colleen Jackson at 156 and 418.

Bad Bowlers No-Tap

This league opened a new season last Tuesday. Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues. Because the scores are higher in this format, scores from this league are not included in the top scores list at the end of each column.

Sub Lynn Estes bowled the top series with a 705 score and he tied Ed Maggard for the high game at 288. David Robinson had the next-best game at 278.

Those who rolled a 600 series were Steve Dickey (672), Jim Hisle (667), Maggard (662) and Dean Acker (609).

April Brumfield, with a 169 game and 440 series, and Joanna Dickey, with a 136 game and 328 series, led the ladies.
