HARRODSBURG —
The Richmond Little League All-Stars opened play in the District 3 Tournament Saturday at Anderson-Dean Park in Harrodsburg.
The squads had a successful first day as they won three of their five games.
Both the Richmond 11-12 year-old All-Stars picked up wins, with Richmond American beating Eastern National, 12-4, and Richmond National defeating Eastern American, 10-1.
In the 10-11 year-old tournament, Richmond teams split their opening games. Richmond National defeated Eastern American, 10-6, while Richmond American lost to Mercer County, 12-2.
In the 9-10 year-old tournament, Richmond American fell to Eastern National, 17-7.
11-12 year-old All-Stars
Richmond American got a pair of home runs and a solid outing from Kyle Brubaker during a 12-4 win over Eastern National Saturday.
James Goble and Connor Taylor both homered as Brubaker picked up the complete game victory. Richmond American scored three runs in the top of the first and never trailed.
Logan Thomason had three hits and scored three runs, Brubaker scored a run, Dillon Wheatley had a hit and scored a run, Goble had a home run, a double and scored twice and Denton Witt had two hits and scored twice.
Richmond National also jumped ahead in the top of the first and never trailed, cruising to a 10-1 win over Eastern American.
Jacob Ferris went five innings and had nine strikeouts, before Jeremy Cox came on to get the final three outs.
Ferris had two hits and scored a run, Taelor Witt had two hits and scored twice, Dalton Moore had a triple and scored a run, Chris Koretski had a hit and scored twice and Casey Brandenburg scored a run.
10-11 year-old All-Stars
Richmond National trailed 5-2, but roared back to defeat Eastern American, 10-6, Saturday in Harrodburg.
Richmond National scored twice in the third, then took the lead with three runs in the fourth. They added three more runs an inning later.
Ethan Haun was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Matthew McQuain scored four times, Ben Snapp had a hit and scored a run, Tyler Storie had a double, Caleb Patterson doubled and scored a run and Devin Ecklar had two hits.
Snapp started and worked into the third. Ecklar and Dalton Gregory come on in relief and helped close out the victory.
Richmond American scored a run in each of the first two innings, but Mercer County took control and rolled to a 12-2 win Saturday in Harrodsburg.
Mercer County took a 9-2 lead after three innings during the five-inning win.
