RICHMOND —
The Berea Community boys and the Model Laboratory girls cruised to championships last weekend at the Class A, Region 6 Cross Country Meet at Cave Lake Park.
Berea’s Jonathan Smith took the individual title in the boys race, winning by almost a full minute (17:10.78). Model’s Hannah Nnoromele won the girls race, posting a time of 12:14.10.
In the boys race, Berea finished with 31 points, easily beating out Somerset (73). Model had two runners finish in the Top 10 — Jack Frisbie (sixth) and Nathan Rini (ninth) — but did have enough entries to qualify for the team competition.
In the girls race, the Lady Patriots finished with 20 points. Berea had 46 points and took second place.
The Model girls team and Berea girls team, along with the Berea boys team and Model’s Frisbie all qualified for the state meet, which is set for Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Madison County runners took the top three spots in the girls race. Model’s Janie Ward was second and Berea’s Hailey Rosenbarker was third.
Model’s Reagan Cole was sixth, Hannah Durbin (Model) was seventh, Berea’s Sofia Saderholm was eighth, Coco May (Model) was 13th, Rhiannon Connor (Berea) was 16th, Ashley Hart (Berea) was 20th, Grace Beavin (Berea) was 21st and Katie Okumo (Berea) was 28th.
Madison County runners took four of the top 10 spots in the boys race. Berea’s Lincoln Satterthwaite was 10th.
Berea’s Raymond McKinley was 12th, Eliot Gardner (Berea) was 14th, Derek Castle (Berea) was 15th, Bryce Rosenbarker (Berea) was 16th and William Spencer (Berea) was 21st.
