Neil Haggard rolled his second 300 game of the season last week. His perfect game was part of a career-best 792 series.

Haggard’s perfect game came in the second game of his series. He just missed a 300 score in the first game as he misfired on the first ball in the 10th frame and finished with a 279. Two open frames in the third game ended his chance at an 800 series.

Lewis Jones Jr. had the next-best scores for the night with a 268 game and 692 series. Robert Richmond (617) and John Hickam (611) also bowled series scores of more than 600.

The best women’s series were 378 by Colleen Jackson and 337 by Mary Mink. Mink (142) and Jackson (135) also bowled the best women’s games.

Bad Bowlers No-Tap

Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.

The top series in this league on Tuesday were 694 by David Robinson and 682 by Ed Maggard. Maggard (263) and Robinson (246) rolled the top games for the night. Maggard opened his second game with nine strikes, but a 4-5-7 split in the 10th frame ended his chances for a no-tap 300 game.

April Brumfield led the ladies with a 221 game and 566 series followed by Joanna Dickey at 159 and 425.

Madison Central bowling

The Madison Central bowling team, coached by Mark Harrison and Deborah Druen, hosted a match against Corbin High School last Thursday at the Galaxy Center.

Central won both Baker Style matches 166-156 and 130-87, but the Redhounds won the standard matches and total pins to capture five of the seven possible points. Five team members alternate bowling a frame in Baker Style matches.

While the Central co-ed team was bowling the Corbin boys, the Corbin girls were bowling the Wayne County girls on adjacent lanes.

The top scores for the young Central bowlers for the night were: Chris Wells (188), Adam Cromer (155), Josh Maynard (135), Blake Jackson (132), Deborah Harrison (131), Eli Vaughn (130) and Christian Jackson (123).

I am pleased that Madison Central and Madison Southern are among the 80 Kentucky high schools sponsoring teams during this first season that bowling has been sanctioned by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. I hope that other schools in this area will sponsor teams next year.
