FOOTBALL: Central freshmen roll past Lafayette

RICHMOND — The Madison Central High School freshman and junior varsity football teams traveled to Lexington to play Lafayette Saturday morning.

The freshman Indians rolled over the Generals, 38-6. The junior varsity suffered a 20-18 loss.

In the freshman game, Korian Crier gave the Indians an early lead with an off-tackle run from 22 yards out then added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. On the Generals’ next possession, Johan Williams scored on a 45-yard interception return and Crier added another two-point conversion for a 16-0 first-quarter lead.

In the second quarter it was Williams and Crier again scoring touchdowns and Cameron Thomas catching a pass from quarterback Aaron Slone for a two-point conversion to make the score 30-0 Madison Central.

The Indian defense allowed the Generals only one first down and never allowed them near the red zone in the first half.

In the third quarter on 4th and 1, Johan Williams took the ball up the middle between left tackle Will Ulmer and left guard Cameron Davis for a 60-yard score. Crier added the two-point conversion to make it 38-0.

Late in the 4th quarter the Generals were able to score.

The next action for the freshman and junior varsity Indians will be on Labor Day at rival Scott County. Kick off is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The win moves the freshman team’s record to 2-0

In the junior varsity game the Indians scored first on a quarterback sneak from Will Nash for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Generals tied things in the second and the score remained 6-6 at half.

In the third quarter, the Indians again went up on a 40-yard touchdown run from Jonathan Tye. Lafayette answered back with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion to take the lead.

In the fourth, Korian Crier found the end zone to bring the Indians back to with two points (20-18). On the last drive of the game the Indians winning score came up short at the goalline.
