RICHMOND —
Several Madison County swimmers represented the Bluegrass Swim Team last weekend at the 2011 Kentucky Long Course State Championship in Louisville.
Lance Fuller turned in the best finish of the local athletes at the 12-and-under meet, taking fourth place in the 50 breast in the boys 9-10 year-old division. Fuller also finished fifth in the 100 breast, ninth in the 200 IM and 10th in the 200 free and 100 back.
Trent Lakes posted a trio of top 10 finishes in the boys 11-12 year-old division. He took eighth in the 200 free and ninth in the 100 back. Lakes was also 10th in the 50 back.
Tilly Baldwin placed ninth in the 50 breast in the girls 11-12 year-old division. She was also 11th in the 100 breast.
Mason Neal’s best finish was 15th in the 9-10 year-old boys 100 breast. He also finished 16th in the 100 free and 17th in the 200 free.
Mallory Burford (girls 9-10 year-old division), Madeline Lee and Eliza Miller (girls 11-12 year-old division) also competed in the meet.
The meet will continue next weekend with the 13-and-over swimmers competing in Elizabethtown.
Three local swimmers also competed for the Bluegrass Swim Team last Friday at the 2011 8-and-under Long Course State Championships in Louisville.
Zane Zhang had four top-10 finishes. He was sixth in the 50 free and seventh in the 50 back, 50 breast and 100 free.
Isabella Cooksey had a 12th-place finish in the 50 breast, was 24th in the 50 free, was 26th in the 100 free and was 33rd in the 50 back.
Jane Zhang was 26th in the 50 breast, 35th in the 50 free, 36th in the 100 free and 37th in the 50 back.
The Bluegrass Swim Team is based in Winchester.

44th District baseball, softball postponed
The opening games of the 44th District softball and baseball tournament did not make it out of the second inning Monday evening before the teams were forced off the field.
Both games were later postponed because of rain and lightning. -
BOWLING: Cracraft leads the way at Galaxy
The top scores bowled at Galaxy last week were a 269 game by Matt Cracraft in the Monday Mixed League and a 719 series by Randy Burgess Sr. in the non-sanctioned Wednesday Summer League.

Judging only by the results of the regular-season meetings between the four Madison County schools, it would be nearly impossible to predict the outcome of this week’s 44th District Softball Tournament.
