The Lady Indians stuck with the gameplan and ultimately they were able to pick up another impressive victory on the road against a top-notch opponent.
Madison Central (24-1) battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit to claim a 57-56 win Friday over Franklin County (19-7) in Frankfort.
Larryn Brooks had a team-high 14 points and Christina Ciolek added 11 points off the bench as the Lady Indians won their 12th-straight game.
“We just told the kids at halftime to calm down and stick with the gameplan,” Central coach Robbie Cooksey said.
Franklin County had a 26-18 lead at halftime after Madison Central shot just 25 percent in the first half. The Lady Indians took their first lead of the game with just more than two minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Brooks come up with a key basket late to help protect that lead and Central hit free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The fourth-ranked Lady Indians shot 53 percent in the second half.
“We just kept trying to push it up and down the court,” Cooksey said. “The kids played with a lot of heart.”
Central also defeated Franklin County on Dec. 20 in a tournament in Louisville.
Brislyn Sizemore and Erika Parks had eight points each, Jenna Cornelison had six points, Iesha Farris had five points and four assists and Ashton Feldhaus had two points.
Ciolek also had two steals and two rebounds.
The Lady Indians have won all 11 games they have played against 11th Region opponents this season.
Central is set to return to action Monday at home against Rowan County.
Franklin County 76, Madison Central 67
Nick Ford had 17 points and Dominique Hawkins added 15 points, but Madison Central suffered a 76-67 loss to Franklin County (17-7) Friday in Frankfort.
The Indians (8-18) rallied late, but couldn’t come back after trailing by as much as 27 points in the second half.
Central shot 59 percent from the field and was five-of-six from three-point range. The Indians also had 16 turnovers, which led to 18 points.
Franklin County hit nine-of-19 three pointers and shot 51 percent from the field.
Brenton Covington finished with 11 points for Central, while John O’Bryan added seven points, George Walker had five points, Kyle Congleton had four points, Casey Schneider had three points and Hunter Allen had two points.
Central is set to return to action Tuesday at home against Shelby County.
