H.S. SWIMMING: Model Laboratory swim teams easily defeat Rockcastle County, Clark County

MADISON COUNTY — The Model swim teams dominated a three-team meet Thursday at the EKU natatorium at Alumni Coliseum, winning 23 of 24 events.

Model’s A team claimed the top spot with a combined team total of 207 points, followed by the Model B Team with a total of 199 points.

Rockcastle County finished third with a combined team total of 117, followed by the GRC A Team with 101 points, Rockcastle County B Team with 76 and GRC B Team with 70.

Model’s girls teams claimed the top two spots with the A Team finishing with 95 points and the B Team finishing with 88 points. Rockcastle A Team was third with 83 points, followed by Rockcastle B Team 55, GRC’s A Team had 48 points and GRC’s B Team had 46 points.

On the boys side, Model’s A Team edged out its B Team by one point, 112 to 111 points. The GRC A Team claimed third with a total of 53 points, followed by the Rockcastle A Team with 34 points, the GRC B Team (24 points) and Rockcastle B Team (21 points).

Model coach Reinhardt Strijdom said he is happy with the way his team finished out the first half of the season.

“I thought it was a real good buildup. We’ve been steadily improving which is all you’re looking for,” Strijdom said. “We’re a little bit ahead of what I thought we would be. But we have a lot of work to do now over the Christmas break. I think there will be a big difference in the team after we get back.”



Individual results for Model’s girls were:

Christina Swartz; 1st in the 200 yard free — 2:18.57, 1st in the 500 yard free — 6:07.33.

Maddy Nasrallah; 1st in the 200 yard IM — 2:50.51, 1st in the 100 yard free — 2:1:05.36, 7th in the 50 yard free — 32.68.

Lauren Shepherd; 1st in the 100 yard fly — 1:04.78, 1st in the 100 yard back — 1:08.37.

Kate Walters; 1st in the 100 yard breast.

Lexi  Nasrallah; 2nd in the 200 yard free — 2:31.94.

Jane Ward; 1st in the 100 yard free — 1:14.64, 5th in the 50 yard free — 31.75.

Jaqueline Brochu; 2nd in the 100 yard breast — 1:29.41, 6th in the 50 yard 50 yard free — 32.68.

Lillie Deprez; 2nd in the 100 yard back — 1:17.50, 3rd in the 500 yard free — 6:34.78.



Individual results for Model’s boys were:

Jonas Welsing; 1st in the 100 yard free — 53.00, 1st in the 100 yard breast — 1:08.98.

Sam Shepherd; 1st in the 100 yard back — 59.94, 2nd in the 100 yard breast — 1:10.70.

James Swartz; 1st in the 200 yard free — 1:59.08, 2nd in the 200 yard IM — 2:22.45.

Cameron Sidor; 1st in the 500 yard free — 5:24.08, 2nd in the 200 yard free — 2:00.76.

Parker Jackson; 1st in the 200 yard IM — 2:17.93, 2nd in the 500 yard free — 5:27.17.

Jack Miller; 1st in the 50 yard free — 24.48, 2nd in the 100 yard free — 54.85.

Devin Dirks, 1st in the 100 yard fly — 1:10.72, 2nd in the 50 yard fly — 25.51.

Kody Stroschein; 2nd in the 100 yard back — 1:09.83, 3rd in the 200 yard free — 2:21.83.

Patrick Nnoromele; 3rd in the 100 yard free — 1:15.51, 6th in the 50 yard free — 30.23.

The Model girls A Team won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 2:18.20, the 200 yard free relay in a time of 2:04.49 and the 400 yard free relay in a time of 4:24.44.

The girls B Team finished third in the 400 yard free relay.

The boys A Team finished first in the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:55.65 and the 200 yard free relay in a time of 1:42.32.

The boys B Team finished second in the 200 yard free relay in a time of 1:50.05.
