RICHMOND —
Another solid defensive performance carried the Lady Indians to a victory Monday on the road.
Larryn Brooks finished with 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds and Ashton Feldhaus had 20 points and eight rebounds as Madison Central defeated Rockcastle County, 63-44, in Mt. Vernon. The Lady Indians limited the Lady Rockets to just 30 percent shooting, including 26 percent in the first half.
The win was the fifth-straight for Central (19-3).
“Our team defense was really solid,” Central coach Robbie Cooksey said.
The Lady Indians shot 44 percent from the field (22-of-50) and were seven-of-13 from three-point range. Brooks was four-of-four from three-point range.
Central had a 13-point lead late in the first half, but two three pointers allowed Rockcastle County to cut the lead to seven (27-20) at halftime.
The Lady Indians used an 8-0 run late in the third to take control. They pulled away in the fourth at the free throw line.
Central was 12-of-16 from the line for the game.
Michaela Hunter, an EKU signee, had just three points in the first half, but finished with 19 points.
“She had to work for (those points),” Cooksey said of Hunter.
Heather Hinkle played only 20 minutes because of foul trouble. Central got good minutes off the bench from Haley Christian, who had three rebounds and one steal in 11 minutes.
Hinkle finished with three points, Shadae Bosley had four points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and Bailey O’Bryan had 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Brooks was eight-of-13 from the field and also had two steals.
Central is set to return to action Thursday at Clay County.
