RICHMOND —
The Lady Colonels (6-5) begin OVC play at 2 p.m. today on the road against Murray State (7-4). They are still looking for their first road victory of the season.
EKU, which is a perfect 6-0 in McBrayer Arena, but 0-5 on the road this season, is coming off a 68-43 victory over West Virginia State on Dec. 18.
Murray State is coming off a 69-55 loss to Missouri which broke the Racers seven-game winning streak.
The game will feature the two best defenses in the OVC. EKU has limited its opponents to 59.6 points per game, while Murray has limited its opponents to an average of 59.8 points per game.
The Racers are led by Mariah Robinson, who is averaging 17.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Erica Burgess is averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and four blocks per game, while Erika Sisk is also in double figures with 11.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Sisk has been named the OVC Freshman of the Week three times this season.
Murray is averaging 35.8 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from behind the three-point line, and is pulling down an average of 44.5 rebounds per game, while allowing 42.8 rebounds per game by its opponents.
The Lady Colonels enter the game shooting 37.4 percent from the field and 30 percent from behind the arc.
EKU is averaging 41.9 rebounds per game and outrebounding its opponents by an average of three rebounds per game.
Jade Barber continues to lead the Lady Colonels with an average of 12.4 points, 10 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game. She leads the OVC in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage at 63.2 percent.
Brittany Coles is second on the team in scoring with an average of 9.7 points per game and is pulling down 5.4 rebounds per game, while Raechelle Gray is averaging 9.5 points and 4.3 assists per game, and Alex Jones is averaging 7.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
The Lady Colonels are 3-1 in OVC openers under coach Chrissy Roberts, including wins against Murray State in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
EKU returns home for three games beginning with Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville (SIUE) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
