H.S. SOCCER: Lady Pirates roll past Garrard County, 7-1

RICHMOND — The Lady Pirates continued their early-season offensive onslaught as they rolled to a win Monday on the road.

Sydney Sandefur scored four goals and Tonya Renzenbrink added two goals as Berea Community topped Garrard County, 7-1. Through four games this season, the Lady Pirates (4-0) have scored 31 goals, including at least seven goals in each game.

Garrard County took the early lead, scoring on a breakaway in the ninth minute.

“It took us a little while to get going,” Berea coach Jerry Bingham said.

Sandefur scored with 27 minutes left in the half. The senior added three more goals in the first half, scoring on a penalty kick and two direct kicks.

Berea lead 4-1 at halftime.

Renzenbrink pushed that lead to four goals early in the second half on an assist from Taylor Powell. Powell later scored a goal before Renzenbrink found the net again.

Berea out-shot Garrard County, 31-12.

The Lady Pirates did get some bad news on Monday. Junior Ashley Vaughn will likely miss the rest of the season after she tore her ACL during Thursday’s win over Paris.

Vaughn tore her MCL last year.

Berea is set to return to action today at home against Bath County. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
