GIRLS SOCCER: Central blasts Montgomery County, 4-0

RICHMOND — The Lady Indians followed up a win over district rival Madison Southern on Saturday with another shutout victory on Wednesday.

Kennedy Harden, Dani Parsley, Maryssa Stewart and Abby Helwig all scored as Madison Central topped Montgomery County in Richmond.

The Lady Indians (12-2-1) have won three straight games and have not allowed a goal in their past four games.

Central had several good scoring chances early, but didn’t score until Helwig scored with 11:35 left in the first half. Stewart took the ball deep into the left corner, fed it to Emily Wiloughby who sent a pass in front to Helwig. The junior fought past a defender and got her foot on the ball.

Parsley made it 2-0 with 7:03 left in the first half. The sophomore defender carried the ball up the left side and launched a shot from just outside the box that beat the goaltender to the far post.

Stewart and Hardin scored in the second half for Central as Samantha Shepherd earned the shutout in goal.

The Lady Indians are set to return to action Wednesday at Harrison County.

Danville 4, Central 1

Zach Brock scored a first-half goal, but Madison Central wasn’t able to knock off Danville Wednesday on the road.

The Admirals picked up a 4-1 win on their Senior Night.

The loss was the third-straight for the Indians (6-8). Levi Knutson had six saves for Central. Austin McAlister had five shots to lead the Indians. Brock had four shots, while Logan Baker, Zach Owsley and Addison McCoy had one shot each.

Central is set to return to action at 8 p.m. today at home against Mercer County.

The Pirates suffered a 5-0 loss to Paris Wednesday on the road.

With the win, the Greyhounds completed a two-game regular-season sweep of Berea Community. Paris also defeated the Pirates 4-1 on Aug. 16 in Berea.
