SOCCER: Givens honored by MSC

RICHMOND — Georgetown College women’s soccer player Kelsey Givens has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

The freshman from Richmond shutout a pair of opponents this past week.

She started with five saves and no goals allowed in 90 minutes against NCAA Division II Kentucky Wesleyan. She also had a shutout against MSC foe Shawnee State University, recording five saves.

“She is having a great start to her career at Georgetown,” Tiger coach and former GC goalie Leah Crews Castleman said. “Her ability is off the charts.”

In three games, the former Model standout has allowed just two goals in 286 minutes in goal with 18 saves. She is second in the conference in goals against average – 0.63.
