Richmond 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars top District 3 champs, 8-2, in rematch
RICHMOND — The Richmond American 9-10 year-old All-Stars earned a measure of revenge while picking up another important win Sunday at the Kentucky State Little League Tournament at Lake Reba.
After falling to Harrison County last weekend in the District 3 championship game, Richmond American used a six-run, fifth inning to roll to a 8-2 win in the rematch.
With the win, the All-Stars improve to 2-0 in tournament. The team will wrap up pool play at noon today against Campbellsville.
Richmond American scored once in the second and third inning before pulling away in the sixth. The first eight batters reached base as the All-Stars jumped out to an 8-1 lead.
Ryan Gordon doubled to lead-off the inning, then Alex Mayes followed with an RBI double. Bryar Rose walked, then Jared Grant added an RBI single. Brian Turner walked to loaded the bases setting the stage for McKinley Sewell to deliver the biggest hit of the inning — a three-run triple.
Harrison County got a run off Richmond American in the fifth, but a double play ended the inning and the threat.
Rose started for Richmond and went five innings, allowing just one earned run. Grant pitched the final inning, giving up just one hit.
Sewell singled to lead-off the second inning, then Jason Hurt reached on an error and Logan Black walked. Richmond American took a 1-0 lead moments later when Tyler Boneta drew a bases-loaded walk.
Rose doubled in the third and scored on a single by Grant.
Rose and Sewell each scored twice and Grant had three hits, including a double in the sixth.
