TRACK: Middle school athletes set for state meet
Last weekend, track athletes from Madison County's four high school's had their chance to compete against the state's best in the KHSAA State Track Championships at the University of Louisville.
OVC: BASEBALL: Colonels hold off SEMO, advance to final three
Despite holding a nine-run lead, the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team had to hold off a Southeast Missouri State rally for a 12-9 victory in an elimination game at the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday in Jackson, Tenn.
The No. 5 seeded Colonels are one of the final three teams remaining.
YOUTH LEAGUES: Signups for leagues underway
The Richmond Little League will begin sign-ups for this year’s fall season on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Sign-ups are also scheduled for Monday, June 3 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.
BOWLING: Shearer wins seniors tourney
Fifteen bowlers took to the lanes for the second monthly seniors tournament on May 19.
Beverly Shearer finished on top with a handicapped score of 753 for three games, which earned her the first place prize of $57.
OVC BASEBALL: Colonels roll past JSU, 11-2
Eastern Kentucky University, the No. 5 seed, beat fourth-seeded Jacksonville State, 11-2, in the first round of the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Tournament on Wednesday in Jackson, Tenn.
GOLF: Local golfers qualify for State Amateur
Three local golfers earned the chance to participate in this year’s Kentucky State Amateur by turning in outstanding rounds at a qualifying event Monday at the Danville County Club.

Jimmy Wright’s performance at the 44th District Tournament played a big role in Madison Central earning a seventh-straight championship.

Ken-Jah Bosley and Quan Taylor were both key performers as Madison Central claimed its first-ever Sweet 16 title earlier this year.
Now, the Madison Central seniors are heading to college programs with a long histories of championships.
H.S. BASEBALL: Indians battle back to top Southern, 9-5
Both of the regular-season showdowns between long-time rivals Madison Central and Madison Southern lacked any drama.
H.S. SOFTBALL: Frakes delivers game-winner as Central tops Lady Eagles, 3-2
The Madison Central Lady Indians won their fifth-straight 44th District championship Tuesday with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Madison Southern at Berea College.
