Richmond man pleads guilty to robbing stores

RICHMOND — A Richmond man accused of robbing three check cashing stores in Richmond and Berea, pleaded guilty in Madison Circuit Court on Thursday, as part of a plea agreement.

David Eugene Lynch, 34, was indicted earlier this year on three counts of first-degree robbery, a Class B felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison each. Lynch pleaded guilty Thursday to all three charges.

“I robbed three (check cashing) stores — I never pulled a weapon,” Lynch told Judge William C. Clouse during his hearing.

Lynch took money from Cash Express, Advance America Check Advance and Pay Day USA in three separate robberies between Dec. 23, 2009, and March 3. He was armed with a pistol during the robberies. He was arrested March 4 during a traffic stop in Richmond.

The Madison County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office is recommending that Lynch be sentenced to 15 years in prison, and that he serve at least 85 percent of that sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. This means Lynch will likely have to spend almost 13 years in prison.

Lynch will be sentenced Oct. 13.
