RICHMOND —
No one was injured Friday evening in a downtown accident involving a police cruiser and an SUV, but the Courthouse Annex didn’t escape damage from the incident.
The wreck occurred about 7:30 p.m. at North Second and West Irvine streets. Police officers and firefighters cordoned off nearly two blocks of downtown while a Kentucky State Police trooper took pictures and collected evidence.
Richmond Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Cole said everyone involved in the accident seemed uninjured, and they all refused EMS treatment.
Richmond police at the scene of the wreck refused to answer questions about the accident but did confirm no one was hurt and no one was arrested.
The front-end of the police cruiser sustained heavy damage. The back end of the SUV had come to a rest against the front corner of the Courthouse Annex, causing damage to the brickwork. Several bricks littered the sidewalk and one of the decorative round windows was pushed in.
Firefighters went into the building to check for interior damage.
“It’s doesn’t seem like there’s any structural damage,” Cole said. “It’s more cosmetic.”

Exit 95 rebuild delayed until 2017

Man arrested Friday after early morning break-in
Richmond police made an arrest Friday in connection with an early morning break-in at Jack’s Cleaners on West Water Street.
Scott Hobbs, 42, of McKee, was charged with first-degree burglary, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock
At 3:25 a.m., a witness reported seeing a man enter and exit the cleaners through a broken window and drive away, Brock stated in a news release. -
Grand jury indicts inmates in jail assault
Two inmates at the Madison County Detention Center were indicted Wednesday on charges related to the beating of another prisoner.
