Billiards hall owner robbed by two men

The owner of a Richmond billiards hall was robbed by two men early Wednesday morning, Richmond police said.

Chief Larry Brock said officers were dispatched to BJ Family Billiards on S. Killarney Lane around 1:05 a.m. Wednesday after the owner reported two white men had struck him in the head with a metal object and took a bank bag.

The bag contained an undisclosed amount of cash from the business, Brock said.

The robbery occurred as the owner was locking up the business after closing, and the robbers are believed to have fled in a red sedan, possibly driven by a white female.

Brock said detectives still are investigating the incident and had no further details.

The victim was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington with what Brock described as a laceration and a head injury. Brock said Wednesday that no additional information on the man’s condition was available.

Stolen property arrest

Police arrested a Buckwood Drive man Saturday for receiving stolen property in connection with a burglary at a Laurel Street home.

Nahshon Mullins, 26, was arrested following an investigation into a Feb. 7 burglary at a home in the 400 block of Laurel Street, Brock said.

Two televisions, a cellular phone, a Nintendo GameCube console and games and a vacuum cleaner were reported stolen from the home, and the items were later discovered at a nearby apartment linked to Mullins, Brock said.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Mullins on Feb. 11, Brock said, and located him on Spring Street on Saturday, where he was arrested.

Mullins was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.

Other crimes

• A .22-caliber Rexio revolver was reported stolen from a home in the 200 block of Logan Avenue on Saturday. The gun was valued at $100.

• Two vehicles were broken into Tuesday outside a home in the 100 block of Woods Trail and a number of items were stolen.

Reported stolen from one vehicle were a speaker box containing two 12-inch subwoofers, a 400-watt amplifier, a set of brake shoes and a set of jumper cables.

Items stolen from the other vehicle included an in-dash CD player, a set of golf clubs, a watch, a backpack and a college geography textbook.

Witnesses described seeing two heavy-set white males in a black pickup truck with tinted windows removing the items from the vehicles.

• An apartment in the 200 block of McDaniel Avenue was broken into Monday after the rear door was forced open.

Reported missing were a 42-inch Samsung flat-screen television, an XBox video game console and 20 games, two sets of car keys, clothing, 60 DVDs, cash and a pit bull, all valued at $5,420.

The dog was later found in the area of Four Mile Road and Irvine Street.

• A 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol was reported stolen Tuesday from a home in the 100 block of Overland Drive after a side door was forced open. The gun was valued at $346.

Man pleads guilty to voyeurism charge
A man accused of taking pictures of a woman showering at a Berea truck stop was sentenced to probation Wednesday in Madison District Court.
Paul S. Byrd, 41, of McKee, was arrested Oct. 29 by the Kentucky State Police after a woman reported the incident at the 76 Truck Center off Interstate 75.

Facebook post leads to arrest
A post on the Richmond Police Department’s Facebook page led to the arrest of a man suspected of stealing two Blu-Ray players from Walmart.
Walmart employees reported to police Jan. 25 that a man had concealed the electronics under his coat and attempted to leave the store without paying, said Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock in a news release.

Friday at library : Lecturer to portray founder of Berea
John G. Fee, abolitionist and founder of both Berea and Berea College, will be portrayed Friday night by performer Obadiah Ewing-Roush as part of Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua performance series at the Madison County Public Library. There is no charge to attend the 7 p.m. event.

Berea woman dies Tuesday in Laurel County crash
A Berea woman, Tommie Johnson, 60, died Tuesday evening in a Laurel County crash, according to the the Laurel Sheriff’s Office.
The accident took place about 7 p.m. at the junction of Maple Grove Road and KY 363 south of London, as Johnson was attempting to turn onto the state highway.
Laurel County Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore said Johnson’s Chevrolet Cavalier pulled out in front of a Dodge Durango driven by Charles Joseph, 19, that was traveling south on KY 363.
After being extricated from her vehicle, Johnson was transported to St. Joseph-London hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Joseph also was transported to the hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries, according to the accident report.
