Young Winchester man dies in Boonesboro Road crash

RICHMOND — A 21-year old Winchester man died at 5:24 a.m. Saturday when the vehicle in which he was a front-seat passenger crashed into an oncoming car on Boonesboro Road near the Dollar General store, about three miles east of Exit 95 on Interstate 75.

Jeremy Owens was killed on impact, said Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison. He appeared not to have been wearing safety restraints, the coroner said.

His side of the vehicle took the brunt of the impact, Cornelison said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver and another passenger in the vehicle carrying Owens, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, were all transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center by Madison County EMS. Their injuries appeared not to be life threatening, said Cornelison, who also directs the emergency medical service.

Both drivers were subjected to blood alcohol tests, but the results were not available.
