Local rescue squad member awarded for boat rescue

RICHMOND — A member of the Madison County Rescue Squad was acknowledged Monday by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) for his help rescuing a man from an Aug. 8 boating accident.

Lt. Robert Mink, along with officers Patrick Younts and Richard Waite of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Division of Law Enforcement, helped when a pontoon boat became trapped below the “low head” dam at Lock 11, near College Hill.

Officers Younts and Waite, and Lt. Mink, “placed themselves at significant risk to rescue the boat operator, who was suffering from hypothermia and at risk of drowning,” according to information from NASBLA.

The awards were presented in Richmond by Hank Patton, the director of the Kentucky Division of Law Enforcement.
