Large amount of pills found in Berea hotel room

BEREA — Two people were charged Wednesday with drug trafficking after Berea police reported finding a large amount of oxycodone, methadone and xanax in their motel room.

Amanda Barnes, 37, of Paint Lick, and Steve Napier, 29, of Lexington, both were charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and one count each of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Barnes also received a charge of possession of marijuana, and Napier was charged with tampering with physical evidence.

Berea police were sent to the Holiday Motel after receiving a complaint about possible drug activity, according to a BPD news release.

The occupants of the room gave consent for officers to search, and 133 oxycodone, methadone and xanax pills were found, according to the release. A small amount of marijuana was found in the night stand and $727 was discovered in Napier’s pocket, the release stated.

Napier had tried to destroy the evidence by flushing the pills down the toilet, according to the release.

Theft, burglaries reported to BPD

A business in the 100 block of North Broadway Street reported Dec. 3 that several tools worth $1,013 were stolen from the business.

– A resident in the 300 block of Baldwin Street reported Dec. 3 that a handgun, worth $525, was stolen from his vehicle.

– A person reported Dec. 1 that a lock had been cut from a storage building in the 100 block of Morning View Drive and items worth $70 had been stolen.

– Advance Auto Parts store employees reported Dec. 1 that a male shoplifter stolen several headlight bulbs, worth a total of $469.91.

– A person reported Dec. 1 that construction equipment and tools worth $3,975 were stolen during the night from a Berea College construction site on Prospect Street.

Misdemeanor charges

From Dec. 4 to Sunday, Berea police charged one person with trafficking in marijuana (less than 8 ounces, first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia, one person with public intoxication, one person with driving under the influence of drugs (first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia, one person with carrying a concealed deadly weapon (machete), one person with second-degree possession of a controlled substance, one person with public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia, one person with alcohol intoxication, one person with driving under the influence of an intoxicant (marijuana and alcohol), and one person with disorderly conduct.

Senior class president Kelsey Choate gave the welcoming. Mona Isaacs, chair of the Madison County Board of Education, gave remarks congratulating the seniors on completing an important milestone in their lives, and welcoming them into society as young adults.
Music at the ceremony was provided by the MSHS symphonic band, directed by David Ratliff, and the MSHS choir, directed by Letha Hembree.

Benson will be state’s third highest paid university president

Three Richmond thefts reported Tuesday-Thursday
Richmond police are investigating thefts reported from Tuesday through Thursday.
An employee of Baptist Health, Eastern Bypass, reported Thursday that her vehicle had been broken into during the evening and a small shoulder purse was stolen. The purse contained several debit/credit cards, $70 in cash, and a Pantech slider cellular telephone. Estimated loss: $595.
