KFC offering reward for Sanders bust

By Brian Smith

The theft of a bust of Harland Sanders from a Berea Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant has drawn a unique reward offer.

Kentucky Fried Chicken’s corporate office has announced a reward of $500 of the company’s new “Kentucky Grilled Chicken” in exchange for information which leads to the statue’s return.

“We want the Colonel back in our Berea restaurant and we want the authorities to have the chance to ‘grill’ the ‘chickens’ who stole him,” said Rick Maynard, a public relations spokesman for the company.

The bronze bust, valued at $1,200, was reported stolen Jan. 31 after a group of four young males entered the restaurant shortly before 6 p.m., Berea police said.

“Four young males, either high school or college age, went in to eat,” said Capt. Ken Clark, department spokesman, “and when they left, the Colonel went with them.”

Police were unable to positively identify the suspects because the restaurant was not equipped with surveillance cameras.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the bust is asked to call the Berea Police Department at 986-8456.
