RICHMOND — Three alleged shoplifters were arrested Sunday after police say they stole more than $1,100 worth of items from Meijer.
“Employees reported that the trio was cutting open packages, concealing the merchandise, and then taking the items to a car in the parking lot,” said Chief Larry Brock of Richmond Police.
Arrested were Herschell Hall, 46, of Gray, Ky., Debra S. Smith, 37, Corbin, and Jennie R. Crosslin, 36, Corbin.
Officers recovered numerous items of stolen property from the suspects as well as from the vehicle in the parking lot. The stolen items consisted of watches, pocket knives, clothing, fishing lures and shoes, Brock said.
They all were charged with theft by unlawful taking over $500, a Class D felony. Smith and Crosslin also were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after razor blades, bent spoons with suspected drug residue, and a syringe were found on their persons, the chief said.
They were lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, all with $2,500 bonds, according to the jail’s website. Crosslin was released Monday. Smith and Hall were still being held as of Tuesday afternoon.
Other crimes
• A complainant reported Monday that her black iPhone in a pink case had been lost or stolen from her purse that afternoon while she was in the area of Big Lots. The estimated loss is $440.
• A man reported Monday the loss of his 1975 class ring. The ring, from Cedar Springs High School, was hanging on a 19-inch yellow gold chain when it was lost in Walmart on June 25, the man reported.
The ring has not been turned in or recovered, Brock said. The estimated loss is $600.
• A party host says one of his guests walked out of his home with his iPhone. The man, a resident in the 200 block of Martin Drive, reported the theft Monday, saying it occurred early Sunday morning. The white phone has an estimated value of $200, Brock said.
