MADISON COUNTY — A Madison County sheriff's deputy escaped serious injury this morning when a woman lost control of her car along Mount Vernon Road and struck his parked cruiser.
Kathern L. Dawson, 38, was traveling north on the highway in southern Madison County at 7:45 a.m. when she looked away from the road to adjust her radio, according to a news release from the Kentucky State Police.
Dawson told police she tapped the brakes and lost control of her car, crossing over into the southbound lane then off the southbound shoulder, the release states.
Dawson's car then struck Deputy James Thompson's vehicle, which was stationary in a gravel lot beside the road. Thompson was sitting in his cruiser doing paperwork, according to the KSP.
Dawson and Thompson, 51, were both wearing seat belts, the release stated. Dawson reported no injury, and the deputy was treated and released from St. Joseph Berea as a precautionary measure, according to the KSP.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Charles Tinsley is the investigating officer.
