Leaking mustard rounds overpacked

Register staff report

RICHMOND — The four projectiles leaking mustard vapor detected on July 12 have been identified and overpacked into leakproof containers, according to a release from the Blue Grass Army Depot.

The four projectiles have been moved into an igloo specifically designated for overpacked leaking mustard munitions, the release state.

“These leaking projectiles posed no danger or risk to the citizens of Madison or surrounding counties,” according to depot spokesperson Richard Sloan.

The Madison County Emergency Management Agency, the Commonwealth of Kentucky Emergency Management Agency and Department of Environmental Protection were notified of the leak immediately after the detection and were informed daily of the progress of the leaker campaign until completion.
