RICHMOND —
A Jan. 31 traffic stop has resulted in the indictment of Curment Nicholas Carpenter, 40, of Lexington Road.
Carpenter was indicted Wednesday by a Madison grand jury on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine (first offense), tampering with physical evidence, two counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense) and carrying a concealed, deadly weapon.
Carpenter was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic offense close to midnight on Jan. 31, according to the RPD.
The Richmond police officer reportedly found several methamphetamine precursors and paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
According to the indictment, Carpenter’s manufacturing charge was the result of him having two or more chemicals or two or more pieces of equipment used in the methamphetamine manufacturing process.
The officer also found two hypodermic needles, a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine and a set of brass knuckles that belonged to Carpenter, the indictment states.
Upon his initial arrest, he was taken to the Madison County Detention Center where he was held on a $15,000 cash bond. However, a court-ordered release was made April 9, according to detention center personnel.
If convicted on all charges, Carpenter could serve up to 36 years in prison.
