Kickoff for Operation Christmas Child scheduled for Saturday

RICHMOND — The Madison County countdown event for Operation Christmas Child will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Main Street.

Operation Christmas Child (a project of the Christian worldwide relief organization Samaritan’s Purse) reaches out to children ages 2-14 living in difficult circumstances all over the world with shoe box gifts, filled with hygiene items, school supplies, clothing and toys. Since 1993, this organization has distributed more than 80 million shoe box gifts.

The kickoff event is free and will be in the church’s new multi-ministry building just behind the church’s main building. Promotional items and decorative shoeboxes to use for your shoebox preparation will be available.
