RICHMOND —
Police are looking for two men who they believe attacked a woman while she was walking and tried to steal her purse.
Richmond officers were sent to North Keeneland and Keystone Drive at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report about an attempted robbery, according to a news release from Chief Larry Brock.
The woman told the officers she had been walking north on N. Keeneland Drive when two men approached her, the release stated. She said one of the men asked if she had a cigarette.
When the woman said she did not, the man tried to grab her purse and punched her in the face, Brock said. The woman was knocked to the ground, and the two men started kicking her while trying to take her purse.
The men were not able to get the purse away from the woman, and they fled on foot, Brock said. Officers searched the area but did not find the men.
The woman suffered injuries to her face, according to the release.
One suspect was described as a white man about 25 years old with short hair and a slender face wearing a green shirt and black pants. The second suspect was a black man about 25 years old with very short hair or none at all, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Woman charged with assaulting Richmond police officer
A woman was charged Tuesday with assaulting a police officer when he attempted to detain her on a shoplifting allegation.
Beckan E. Fox, 20, Brooks Road, was charged with third-degree assault, theft by unlawful taking (under $500), resisting arrest, third-degree drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer was sent at 8:32 p.m. to the Dollar General store on Center Drive to investigate a shoplifting complaint, according to an RPD news release.
A Dollar General store employee told the officer that Fox was seen putting merchandise in her purse, the release stated. When the officer approach Fox and tried to detain her, she struck him with her purse, according to the release.
Once the officer had Fox in custody, he reported finding merchandise concealed in her waistband in addition to the items in her purse.
The items were valued at $99.25.
The officer also reported finding a Xanax pill, a clonazepam pill, a spoon commonly associated with illicit drug use and a syringe on Fox, according to the news release.
Burglary reported at storage unit
A complainant told police Oct. 19 that his self-storage unit on East Main Street had been burglarized some time during the previous two months. Entry was gained by cutting off the lock, according to the RPD. The missing items, worth a total of $3,970, were a Vizio 55-inch television, a Vizio 32-inch television, an entertainment center, various collectibles, a refrigerator, two Sony PlayStation 3 gaming systems, an entertainment center, two Xbox 360 gaming systems, an oak coffee and end table and a bright red Whirlpool high efficiency washer and dryer set.
Other thefts:
• A complainant reported Wednesday that a black messenger bag with a gold Zelda emblem and a black Motorola Photon 4G cell phone were stolen from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the 100 block of West Water Street during the late evening hours. The bag also contained some clothing.
Estimated loss is $500.
• A resident in the 300 block of South Keeneland Drive reported Wednesday that a Pioneer CD player worth $99 was stolen from his parked and unlocked vehicle during the early evening hours.
