A man who was struck by a Kentucky State Police cruiser has shown improvement at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Charles L. Walden, 20, was upgraded to serious condition Monday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson. He had been admitted to the hospital in serious condition but he was downgraded to critical Saturday evening.
He was still listed as being in serious condition Monday evening.
Walden was struck 10 p.m. Friday along Barnes Mill Road near Crutcher Pike, according to the KSP. Walden lives on nearby Mule Shed Road, Richmond post spokesman Paul Blanton said.
The cruiser was driven by Trooper Michael P. Luttrell, who was responding to a nonemergency call, according to a KSP news release.
“He’s on paid administrative leave,” Blanton said. He did not know when that period would end and if it was contingent upon the results of the regional KSP accident reconstruction team’s investigation.
Luttrell has been a KSP trooper for five years, according to the release.
The cruiser was traveling east when it struck Walden, who was wearing a black shirt and dark basketball shorts, Blanton said.
Blanton did not have information on what types of injuries Walden sustained in the accident.
