RICHMOND —
A Frankie Drive man has been charged with burglary in connection with the theft of shoes and a bracelet from a Big Hill Avenue home.
William Simmons, 28, Frankie Drive, was charged with second-degree burglary Monday in the Madison County Detention Center where he already was jailed on unrelated charges, according to a Richmond police news release.
Simmons was booked into the detention center Sept. 23 on charges of theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting), parole violation and fourth-degree assault.
On Sept. 23, a resident of an apartment in the 400 block of Big Hill Avenue reported that a gold bracelet and a pair of Nike athletic shoes had been stolen from his home between Sept. 16 and Sept. 20, according to the release.
Simmons was identified as a suspect, and the investigating officer found the shoes at Simmons’ residence Thursday, the release stated.
The bracelet has not been recovered.
Storage building burglarized
A resident in the 200 block of West Broadway reported Friday that a number of items, worth a total of $700, was stolen from a storage building during the overnight hours. Entry was gained by forcing open the door, according to the RPD.
The missing items were a blue Toshiba Satellite laptop computer, and a Craftsman socket set in a black bag with green trim.
Jewelry, game system taken from home on Pine Street
A resident in the 100 block of Pine Street reported Monday that several items, worth a total of $3,510, were stolen from her apartment during the day. The items reported missing were a black Xbox gaming system, a yellow gold herringbone 7-inch bracelet, two yellow gold 7-inch bracelets, a silver 7-inch bracelet, a yellow gold diamond cluster ring, size 8, and a yellow gold ruby and diamond ring, size 8.
A visitor to the apartment was identified as a suspect, according to the RPD.
Other thefts:
• A resident in an apartment in the 200 block of Edgewood Drive reported Sunday that a green, 14-foot canoe, worth $800, had been stolen from her rear deck during the night.
• A realtor handling the sale of a home in the 600 block of Cottonwood Drive reported Friday that an unknown brand heat pump, worth $1,000, had been stolen from the side of the residence some time during the previous two weeks.
• A resident of an apartment in the 1000 block of Autumn Leaf Drive reported Friday that a stainless steel Char-Broil grill with a side burner, worth $400, was stolen from the rear of the residence during the night.
• The owner of an apartment building in the 500 block of Four Mile Road reported Oct. 24 that an unknown brand air conditioning unit had been stolen from the rear of the building some time during the previous week.
• A resident in the 100 block of Divins Court reported Oct. 23 that a black 4-foot by 8-foot utility trailer with a gate ramp had been stolen from beside his residence some time during the first week of October. A red “donut” air compressor also was reported stolen from his van during the same time period. Estimated loss is $670.
