RPD: Woman bit Kroger employee

RICHMOND — A shoplifting incident became a felony robbery case Monday after police say a Muleshed Lane woman bit a Kroger employee who was attempting to detain her.

Rebecca McKnight, 40, was charged with second-degree robbery Monday afternoon and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.

Officers were dispatched to Kroger after receiving a report about employees attempting to detain a shoplifting suspect, according to a Richmond Police Department news release.

Kroger employees told the officers McKnight tried to leave the store without paying for $286 in groceries, the release stated. When the workers tried to detain McKnight, “she became combative and bit one of the employees on the hand, causing a minor injury,” according to the release.

Berea woman faces drug charges

A Berea woman remained in jail Tuesday facing several drug charges following a traffic stop by an RPD officer.

At 8:38 p.m. Monday, an officer pulled a vehicle over near Big Hill Avenue and the Eastern Bypass, according to an RPD news release.

The officer noticed a rear seat passenger, Candi L. Wright, 28 of Silver Creek Road in Berea, “moving around and bent forward toward the floorboard,” the release stated.

The officer discovered that Wright had a bench warrant on a probation violation charge from Fayette County, and she was taken into custody.

Six Roxicodone pills, two Xanax pills and a small tube with white powder residue was found inside the vehicle, according to the news release.

Wright was charged with first-degree drug possession, third-degree drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Other crime:

• A resident in the 200 block of Keystone Drive reported Sunday that his apartment had been broken into over the weekend. Entry was gained by breaking a rear window, according to the RPD. The missing items, worth a total of $630, were a Silo 32-inch LCD television, a black Xbox 360 gaming system with two games and six to eight DVDs of children’s movies.

• A complainant reported Sunday that his Verizon Motorola Razor cell phone worth $400 had been stolen while he was visiting a home in the 800 block of East Main Street during the early morning hours.

• A resident in the 500 block of Baker Court told police Saturday that a silver and black 2004 Yamaha Zuma moped, worth $700, had been stolen from her front yard during the early afternoon. A red extended-cab pickup truck was seen backing into the driveway and then leaving with the stolen moped, according to the RPD.

  • Three Richmond thefts reported Tuesday-Thursday

    Richmond police are investigating thefts reported from Tuesday through Thursday.
    An employee of Baptist Health, Eastern Bypass, reported Thursday that her vehicle had been broken into during the evening and a small shoulder purse was stolen. The purse contained several debit/credit cards, $70 in cash, and a Pantech slider cellular telephone. Estimated loss: $595.
