Coroner: Father takes daughter’s life and his own
A father and his mentally handicapped daughter died early Sunday morning in what Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison is calling an apparent a murder-suicide.
A family member discovered the bodies of Rick Moore, 43, and his 13-year-old daughter Kelsey on Sunday morning in the garage of a Boone’s Trace home near Clay’s Ferry, Cornelison said.
The coroner pronounced them dead at 12:42 p.m. He estimated the time of death at around 1 a.m.
Both victims appeared to have succumbed to carbon-monoxide poisoning from an automotive engine left running, he said.
The bodies were found together in a make-shift bed that had been created in the garage, the coroner said. The bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort where autopsies will be performed.
Cornelison said his investigation found that Moore’s family had experienced a number of personal difficulties in recent years, which could have been a factor in the father’s mental state.
Madison County Sheriff Nelson O’Donnell and Det. Steve King also took part in the investigation, the coroner said.
