Students in Martha Cobb’s second-grade class at Kit Carson Elementary School were asked for their opinion on how to cook a Thanksgiving turkey. The students had varying opinions on what temperature to set the oven and how long to cook the turkey, as well as other thoughts on how to prepare the meal.
Here are their responses:
Abigail — I would say, buy a turkey first. You can’t really bake a turkey without one. Put the turkey in the oven to 105 and check it every two or three hours.
Traci — Stuff it with that stuffing stuff and vegetables and cook it for two minutes.
Alyssa — Put it in the oven at seven degrees, or maybe 70 degrees, for maybe 10 minutes or 10 hours.
Savannah — Turn the oven on at 90 degrees for an hour.
Zachary — I would just go outside and find a turkey and grab it and put the knife in it and take it inside and put it in the microwave and cook it for 30 minutes and then I would eat it.
Jeremiah — Cook it first, put it in for like 12 minutes, then make sure it’s done. Then go put plates on the table, then put the turkey in the middle of the table.
Yuna — You would put it in the oven first and I would bake it probably about 50 degrees, probably about four minutes. We usually put some salt on it and pepper.
Nathan — My mom always cuts it open and puts spices in it and then boils it in that big pot until it’s 205 degrees and then she leaves it in for about an hour or two. That’s it.
Abby — If I was cooking a turkey, I would first take it out of the fridge and put it in the oven and then put lots of seasoning on it. I’d cook it for about an hour at 105 degrees.
Eddy — You put it in the oven at 50 degrees.
Sydnee — I takes a while. Five hours.
Ashton — Take the turkey out and put it in a bucket and put it in the oven an hour. Take it out, put pepper and seasoning on it.
Halle — You might put it in the oven about 20 minutes, about 30 degrees.
Kennedy — Well, I would bake it. I’d say 90 degrees for an hour.
Joshua — You would buy the turkey and put flour on it and bake it about one hour and when you get done with the turkey you put onions and vegetables around it.
Kaylee — You would stuff it, dress it, kill it, put it in the oven and close the oven door and set the timer. When it’s done cooking, take it out of the oven and let it cool a while and then put it on the table.
Preston — Get a turkey and put it in the oven. Carve all the feathers off of it and all that.
Tatum — You buy it at the store, unwrap it, wash it off and cook it for an hour. We always have pumpkin pie.
Emily — Put it in the oven, bake it for a little bit and take it out and carve it. Cook it maybe an hour and 20 minutes at 99 degrees.
Baylie — Put a turkey in the oven. It takes a while. When my mom cooked a turkey, it took almost three days. I guess the pot couldn’t cook that fast. It’s really old.
Minh — I don’t like turkey. There’s a lot of stuff else to eat. I like corn and chocolate cake.
Haley — We usually go out to mamaw’s, but she doesn’t tell us how she makes it.
