An alleged shoplifter was charged with second-degree robbery Tuesday for shoving a clerk as he attempted to flee the store, Richmond police said.
Charles Lear, 41, of Berea, was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal a pair of boots from a vendor at Peddlers Mall on the Eastern Bypass, said Sgt. Willard Reardon, Richmond Police Department spokesman.
Lear entered the mall and put on the boots before trying to leave without paying, Reardon said.
When a clerk attempted to detain Lear, he shoved the clerk and tried to flee, Reardon said, leading to the second-degree robbery charge.
The boots were valued at $50. Lear was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center following his arrest.
