A man wanted in connection with a stabbing Sunday at the Quality Quarters Inn surrendered to Richmond police Tuesday afternoon and was charged with first-degree assault.
Don Potter Jr., 29, of Mount Rushmore Drive, contacted police around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and surrendered to officers, said Sgt. Willard Reardon, Richmond Police Department spokesman.
Potter was identified Monday as a suspect in the stabbing, which sent a woman police have not yet identified to the hospital with multiple stab wounds.
The victim remains hospitalized at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where she was transferred after being taken to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center following the incident.
She was identified by Reardon only as a white female in her 30s.
Police received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. Sunday reporting the stabbing, and detectives spent most of Sunday evening collecting evidence from at least two rooms at the motel.
Potter is charged with first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, and is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond.
Stolen money
More than $2,000 in cash and $550 in Walmart gift cards were stolen Wednesday from a car parked at Mayfield Elementary School.
The victim told police a Community Trust Bank money bag containing the money and cards was stolen from her car between 5:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. while it was parked at the school.
Reardon said the victim told police the vehicle was locked, but no signs of forced entry were found.
Other crimes
• A self-storage unit in the 200 block of Patsy Drive was broken into Tuesday after the lock was cut from the door, police said.
The victim told police that a .22-caliber handgun, an airless paint sprayer, 12 Case XX knives and 300 arrowheads were taken. The items were valued at $3,780.
• A counterfeit $10 bill was passed Tuesday at Frisch’s Big Boy on N. Keeneland Drive. The bill bore the serial number H41178334B.
