A homeowner fires at armed intruder

A homeowner the in Whispering Hills subdivision, on US 25 between Richmond

and Berea, told state police he was awakened by a loud noise at about 5

a.m. Saturday.

After discovering an armed intruder inside the home, the 22-year-old

homeowner said he opened fire on the would-be male burglar, who fled.

KSP Trooper Toby Coyle, two Madison County sheriff's deputies and one

Berea Police officer searched the area, according to a KSP news release,

but could not find a suspect.

Based on a description of the suspect, which was not included in the

release, state police are continuing to investigate.

BREAKING NEWS: Grand jury indicts men in double-murder
Two men accused of killing a Richmond couple for money and then hiding their bodies in graves along Tates Creek Road were indicted Wednesday on capital charges by a Madison grand jury.
Matthew Denholm, 27, and Daniel Keene, 26, were both indicted on two counts each of murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse charges. They also were each indicted on tampering with physical evidence and first-degree burglary charges.
