RICHMOND — A patron of The Manhattan Club patron was served with a warrant Saturday charging him with assaulting a female employee of the club, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

RPD officers were dispatched on Jan. 11 to The Manhattan Club, 221 E. Water St., to investigate the report of an assault. Upon arrival, witnesses told the officers that Jason D. Bowling, 31, had assaulted a female employee of the club.

The witnesses said Bowling struck the victim in the back of the head with a bottle, choked her and punched her in the face. The victim was treated for contusions and head trauma at a Lexington hospital and was released, Brock said.

The investigating officer obtained a warrant for Bowling, charging him with second-degree assault.

Bowling was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center from which he was released Jan. 22 after posting 10 percent of a $20,000 cash bond.

Theft arrest

Ashleigh Brooke Barnett, 24, and Jeremiah David Fout, 28, both of Winton Drive, have been charged in connection a burglary that occurred in the early evening hours of Jan. 17 in the 600 block of Benjamin Drive.

The next day, the resident reported that a number of jewelry items had been stolen from her home.

A ladies’ yellow-gold wedding band, a marquis-cut pendant, a diamond-stud earring set, a ladies’ yellow-gold ring with a one-carat diamond setting in the middle, with two smaller diamonds on the side; a set of 18-carat, yellow-gold hoop earrings, a ladies’ oval-shaped, three-diamond dinner ring with diamond chips around the main setting and a ladies’ yellow-gold Fossil watch were reported taken. The loss was estimated at $15,765.

All but $700 worth of the jewelry has been recovered, Brock said.

An RPD investigation identified Barnett and Fout as suspects, the chief said, without elaborating. Both were involved in the theft of the property and its transfer to a third party, he said. 

After being interviewed at RPD headquarters Jan. 19, Barnett was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, and Fout was charged for receiving stolen property over $10,000 and theft by deception. Both were lodged in the detention center, where they each remained Tuesday on $15,000 cash bonds.

Residential burglaries

Since Saturday, burglars have stolen several televisions and and computers from three Richmond homes.

On Monday, a resident of Spurlin Mobile Home Park reported that her residence had been broken into during the afternoon and several items were stolen. Entry was gained by forcing open a side door, according the report.

A Panasonic 50-inch TV and an Emerson 32-inch flat-screen TV were taken, along with several items of jewelry. A ladies’ gold-tone, bangle-style watch; a ladies silver-colored, bangle-style watch; two silver bangles, a ladies’ silver ring with blue stone, a ladies’ sterling-silver wedding band set and a sterling-silver birthstone ring with a diamond setting were among those stolen. The lost was estimated at $2,209.

Two residential burglaries were reported Saturday, Brock said.

The residents of an apartment in the 100 block of Shamrock Lane reported that their home had been unlawfully entered and a number of items were stolen. Police suspected that entry was gained through a sliding glass door.

A yellow Dell laptop computer, a Hewlett-Packard Presario laptop computer, a Westinghouse 26-inch LCD television and $40 were taken. The loss was estimated at $2,340

A leasing agent for North Ridge Apartments, 450 N. Keeneland Drive, reported Saturday that a red Samsung TV, 19 to 23-inch in size, had been stolen from a model apartment. No signs of forced entry were apparent. The estimated loss was $300.

Earlier home burglaries

A resident in the 200 block of Evansdale Avenue reported Jan. 21 that his residence had been broken into during the mid-afternoon hours and a number of items were stolen. Entry was gained by forcing open the front door. A collection of 64 knives, of the Case and Hen & Rooster brands; a Tyco remote-controlled vehicle, a coo-coo clock and three bottles of prescription medication were taken. Estimated loss was $3,445.

Also on Jan. 21, a resident in the 1300 block of Linden Street reported that her residence had been broken into during the evening hours and a number of items were stolen. Entry was gained by forcing open the rear door. A Sony 32-inch, flat-screen TV, a Dynex 19-inch, flat-screen television, a Dell laptop computer and a Magnavox DVD player were taken. Estimated loss was $1,830.   

A resident in the 100 block of Dixie Plaza Mobile Home Park reported Jan. 20 that her residence had been unlawfully entered during the previous 24 hours and a number of items stolen. Entry was gained through an unlocked window.

A black-and-pink Dell laptop computer, an Avail 19-inch TV with built-in DVD player, a Magnavox 42-inch TV, older style; and a fireproof safe containing only personal documents were taken. Estimated loss was $1,510.

On Jan. 19, a resident of Spurlin Mobile Home Park reported that a black, 2007 Carry-On trailer, model 5X8G, had been stolen from his front yard sometime during the previous three days. Estimated loss was $800.

Burglary of business

On Jan. 15, the owner of Mike’s Warehouse Liquors reported that a storage trailer on the premises had been unlawfully entered sometime during the previous five days and a fireplace insert and an inflatable, flat-screen for a projection TV were stolen. Entry was gained by pushing an air conditioner from its wall mounting. Estimated loss was $750.   

Counterfeit $100 passed

The owner of Pally’s Liquors reported Jan. 18 that a counterfeit $100 bill had been passed at the business during the afternoon. The bill’s serial number is AB38970699J.

Serial shoplifter

On Sunday, a loss prevention officer at Meijer reported that during the past week, several items had been stolen from the store by the same person.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair receding to create a widow’s peak, usually wearing a tan Carharrt jacket and blue jeans.

The following items were reported stolen: a Boss car stereo, Model BV9955; a Boss car stereo, Model BV7320; a Pioneer car stereo, Model DEH-1300MP; and a Bulldog remote cart starter kit.  The estimated loss was $710.

Thefts from vehicles

On Saturday, a number of items were reported stolen during the previous 24 hours from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of McDaniel Avenue. A silver-colored Tomtom GPS unit, a silver iPod and a brown wallet containing personal identification documents and a credit card were taken. The loss was estimated at $150.

Three socket-wrench sets were stolen from an unlocked tool box in the back of a truck while it was parked overnight at a construction site in the 900 block of Red House Road, according to a report filed Jan. 20. One socket set was red and the other two were blue. No brand names were known. Estimated loss was $600.

According to another Jan. 20 complaint, a vehicle had been unlawfully entered during the day while it was parked unlocked in the 100 block of Meadowlark Drive. A silver Sanyo “boom box” and a bottle of prescription medicine were stolen. Estimated loss was $35.       

A vehicle had been unlawfully entered while it was parked in the Richmond Mall parking lot during the early evening hours of Jan. 15, and a tote bag containing a college textbook titled “Development Through Lifespan” and other miscellaneous school supplies were stolen. According to a police report, there were no signs of forced entry. Estimated loss was $150.

Prisoner charged with additional crimes

On Jan. 12, the Oldham County Sheriff’s office served a warrant on Steven S. Roden, 39, N. Poplar Street, Richmond, charging him for drug trafficking as a result of an investigation conducted by RPD. Roden was incarcerated at the Roederer Correctional Complex on unrelated charges when the warrant was served.

The charges stemmed from a covert investigation conducted by the RPD Narcotics Unit in April into the trafficking of oxycodone. Roden was indicted by a Madison County Grand Jury in December 2010 for trafficking in a controlled substance-first degree and being a persistent felony offender-first degree. The warrant was issued as a result of the indictment.

Roden remains lodged in Roederer C.C. pending an appearance in Madison Circuit Court, Brock said.
