The Richmond post of the Kentucky State Police has announced troopers will conduct periodic traffic safety checkpoints in Madison and surrounding counties.
The traffic safety checkpoints are at locations approved by the KSP Police Policy and Procedures Manual, according to Post 7 spokesperson Trooper Paul Blanton. A complete list of the checkpoint locations can be found at www.kentuckystatepolice.org/posts/press/post7_checkpoints.htm.
“Special attention will be paid to occupant protection (seat belt adherence), sobriety, insurance and registration violations,” Blanton said in the news release.
KSP Post 7 reports June activity
Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond reported a variety of law enforcement activities in June. Post 7 covers Madison and 10 area counties.
Troopers and detectives issued 1,452 citations of which 195 were for speeding, 16 were for no child restraint and 204 for no seat belt, according to a news release. A little over a hundred motorists were assisted by KSP officers.
Thirty-two people were arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sixty-eight vehicle accidents were investigated in June, one of which was a fatal accident in Madison County. In that accident a 6-year-old child died June 22 in a two-vehicle collision on Simpson Lane.
KSP detectives and troopers investigated 1,290 complaints, opened 87 criminal cases and made 265 criminal arrests, according to the release.
Troopers also worked 686 special details and conducted 21 educational programs in May.
