RICHMOND —
The Kentucky State Police are assisting the Richmond Police Department in the search for an inmate who reportedly escaped from a work release near Boggs Lane south of the Eastern Bypass.
Darrell Helm, who was in custody on drug-related charges, was last seen headed toward the Sherwin-Williams industrial plant in the Boggs Lane area, according to Trooper Paul Blanton, spokesperson for KSP’s Richmond Post.
Helm, who is white, stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 240 pounds. He was wearing a dark T-shirt and gray sweat pants and has a goatee and dark hair, the trooper said.
Where Helm was working was not released, but the Richmond/Madison County Recycling Center and the Bluegrass Regional Recycling Center, located in the area where Helm escaped, both use inmates on work release.
The agency which had Helm in custody was not released, but the Madison County Detention Center lists no male inmates with the last name Helm on its website.
