RICHMOND —
Students at Clark Moores Middle School were greeted off the bus Wednesday with music and cheers from teachers welcoming them on the first day of school.
While walking in, students signed the sidewalk to pledge, “I believe in my school.”
“We want our students to have pride and ownership in their school from day one,” said Sandye Kabalen, a sixth-grade teacher.
The 2012-13 school year at CMMS began with a new theme: “I Believe. I believe in myself, I believe in my school and I believe in my community.”
Before actual classes began, students and staff met for an inspirational introduction in the gym to hear about what was in store this year. Students then marched out with their tribe in an Olympic-style opening ceremony.
