MADISON COUNTY —
A 14-year-old boy who was walking along the CSX railroad tracks in northern Madison County was hit and killed by a train Saturday afternoon, according the county coroner.
Andrew Byrd, a student at B. Michael Caudill Middle School, was walking alone along the train tracks on Sam Jones Road when he was struck by the train shortly after 3 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
Byrd’s home was on Sam Jones Road, which is off of Red House Road about 7 miles north of Richmond.
Cornelison said the boy died of multiple blunt force injuries. The names of Byrd’s parents were not available prior to press time.
