Special to the Register
With Thanksgiving a little more than a week away and winter just around the corner, the Richmond Area Arts Council is offering an abundance of seasonal items for sale during its annual Winter Spectacular on Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Many unique, handmade items will be available, said Deborah Kidd, RAAC’s executive director.
“You can make your holidays brighter by decorating your home with handmade items or giving them as gifts,” she said. “You also will be supporting the Arts Council as well as local artisans when you buy one of these beautiful items.”
Some may be purchased directly while others will be sold at the conclusion of a silent auction which began Oct. 30.
In past years, RAAC called the event its “Wreath Spectacular,” but the wider variety of items for sale this year led organizers to use the more inclusive term, Kidd said.
In addition to individual artisans, several local organizations, schools, businesses, friends and families have created handmade ornaments, living trees, wall trees, center pieces, themed baskets, jewelry, tabletop trees, pottery and more for the Winter Spectacular, she said.
“Other items include candles, handmade baskets and themed baskets filled with desirable items, from chocolate treats to pet treats,” Kidd said.
An autographed EKU football and basketball also will go to the highest bidder.
Silent auction items may be viewed and bid on at the Arts Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day until Thursday.
Entertainment will be provided and refreshments served Thursday evening, adding to the event’s festive atmosphere.
“RAAC's Winter Spectacular is quickly becoming a premiere event no one in Madison County should miss,” Kidd said. “The creativity exhibited in these items is simply amazing. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a special gift for yourself, family or friends. These gifts are handmade and will be cherished for years.”
